The Augusta-Margaret River Shire's Strategic Waste Management Plan has reached its final milestone with endorsement from the Department of Environment and Conservation.
The plan outlines the current and future strategy for all of the waste streams within the shire. It outlines future development and infrastructure required to achieve waste management.
A glass crusher and bailer haver already been purchased by the shire in line with the plan. Other strategies include extensive and ongoing community education, separation at source of all recyclable materials, provision of adequate infrastructure, initial concentration on specific waste streams and concentration on priority areas.
Everyone in the community has a role to play in preventing waste in the future, shire president Steve Harrison said. The success of any waste reduction initiatives is highly dependent on active community acceptance and participation. The Shire has a strong vision for improving waste management services and providing a purposeful strategic waste management direction.
