VEOLIA is upgrading its Hobart and Launceston MRFs in response to Tasmania's growing volumes of recyclables. Veolia resource recovery manager Philip Wise said volumes were up 10% last year on the back of economic growth, environmental concerns and a shift away from crates to commingled bins.
The commingled conveyors in both MRFs have been reconfigured to improve flow. The Hobart plant has upsized its disc screen and added air separation to double throughput to 10-15 tonnes per hour.
Launceston's smaller volumes have seen it go with trommels and a bounce conveyor. Godswill balers were commissioned in both for baling paper.
